Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the city.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The latest chapter concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of characters who will split off from the main group to embark on their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features Teor (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at the same party would be impossible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might appear unsuited, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the team understands precisely where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then settled his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and warns that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their status as important members in House Halovar could enable the group enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter pledged a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The strong figure and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This means them little choice but to head to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Explorers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which players will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
